7 things I've been loving this summer
The best novel I've read this year, a summer playlist, and fun art books
Welcome to my roundup of things I love this week summer! If you’re not interested in 7 Things, you can specifically toggle off these emails in your account settings.
Hello! It’s a long holiday weekend here in the States, so I’m writing you a more casual newsletter today. I haven’t shared any 7 Things roundups lately so here goes!
Walks around Brooklyn Bridge Park, which has so many hidden delights with no NYC crowds. My favorite spots so far include a long winding labyrinth path around Pier 3 great for walking meditation, or Swing Valley in Pier 6 with lots of swing sets for various ages. I unashamedly went for a swing in the middle of the workday and it was pure bliss.
All Fours by Miranda July, gobbled up in one or two sittings lying in front of the AC. This is my favorite novel of the year thus far. Read for a perimenopausal woman artist’s wild sexual fantasies and her ensuing spiritual awakening.
Eurodance/trance rave anthems are officially back in pop music, and I am so here for it. Fun fact: my husband and I met at a trance show! I love “Desire” by Tove Lo & SG Lewis as well as Shygirl’s Club Shy album. Here’s my summer music playlist for the curious:
I’ve been painting trees using the children’s book The Forest as reference. The illustrations by Violeta Lopiz and Valerio Vidali are stunning—so simple and colorful while also deeply layered and textured! The book is currently out of print but preorders are open via Enchanted Lion for the next printing.
For stationery and journaling lovers 📓 I recently had the pleasure of connecting with Victoria Kirst, also on Substack as
. In May she launched Pouch Magazine, a fanzine for stationery lovers with lots of layout inspo, stationery reviews, and journaling tips. I haven’t made journal spreads in ages but Pouch has me feeling the itch again! My sister’s bar, Orion Bar, is officially open Thursday to Sunday in Bushwick 💫 Check out this write up in Eater if you’d like to find out more. I’ve gone several times now and am always impressed with the beautiful space, damn delicious food and innovative cocktails. I am so proud of my sister and brother-in-law for actualizing their long-shared vision!
Kelly Belter is an illustrator and printmaker in Seoul with a fantastic Youtube channel sharing resources on print and zine making techniques. Check out her video of ways to level up your zine (there’s even a free downloadable worksheet!)
Congrats to your sister! I enjoyed the extra write up in Eater.
Omg, I've been seeing All Fours showing up everywhere — taking this as my official sign to read it ASAP. Love this roundup!
