7 things I loved on the fourth week of March
A vintage typewriter, a perfect animation, and a snack rec
Welcome to my roundup of things I loved this week! If you’re not interested in 7 Things, you can specifically toggle off these emails in your account settings.
I am now a proud owner of my first typewriter, purchased off Craigslist for $25! It’s a 1946 Smith-Corona Sterling—this thing is older than my parents. After some degreasing and fiddling, it’s working like new. I knew nothing about typewriter mechanics so Just My Typewriter and Phoenix Typewriter on Youtube were my trusty guides.
Marguerite Duras on Pierre Bonnard, one of my favorite painters: “The making of pictures and books isn’t something completely conscious. And you can never, never find words for it.”
I checked out a Reading Rhythms event (thanks to
🥰) and was pleased to find my book matched the venue. Real Americans comes out in a few weeks and it’s a solid multigenerational saga exploring epigenetics and class.I had never seen the 2018 animated short CAT DAYS before. The story, the colors, the subtle movements and shadows—everything about it is incredible.
- made a resonant comic on being your own why. Women don’t need to couch their ambitions to be for others—we can embrace our desires for ourselves!
I visited Kingston, NY over the weekend and came across Everywhere Shop, a queer and trans owned stationery store. Sadly they were closed for renovations, but I found this lovely free art stand with riso posters and prints inside.
A snack recommendation—have you tried these Thin Mints Bites? Thin Mints are my favorite Girl Scout cookie and these didn’t disappoint. I prefer the cookie heft of the original, but if you’re more of a chocolate person these have the ideal ratio.
I cannot stop eating those thin mints. So good! Also I recently bought a typewriter as well — I thought of it as a sort of decoration because it is super old and doesn’t work but after reading your post, I’m like…maybe I should try to restore it?
Thanks for this inspiring list! Always love your posts
I'm obsessed with your typewriter! I have a half-dozen of my own. Thanks for sharing my post!
