I remember listening to a podcast episode with adrienne maree brown where she asks “are you satisfiable” and I think about that question often but haven’t actually sat down to read her book. Adding to my reading list!
I like the idea of reading as a summer job, especially because my actual summer job is usually negotiating snacks, deadlines, and wet swimsuits on the floor. My kids still make things without asking if they are good, which is both beautiful and slightly insulting to anyone who has spent a week moving one sentence around.
It’s not a recommendation, since I found it in your digital garden and therefore assume you’ve read it, but I’ve just finished Saving Time by Jenny Odell on audiobook and it is AMAZING.
I loved the way she makes you think about and examine assumptions about time and money and work, and how deep those assumptions go without being questioned. Now I want to figure out how to take action on it.
I read Saving Time earlier this year! SO many notes were taken. It took me a while to get into the flow of reading it but it really is a book I will be digesting and integrating for a long long time. Glad you enjoyed it too!
I absolutely love Hounds of Love! That album has magic in it and Kate Bush is a music witch. The title song is just... I can't even explain it. What a ride that album is...
