Great newsletter, as always. :) Esp loved the yin/yang chart, seeing your Figma WIP, and the album recommendation! Came here to say I'd love to hear about how you use AI in a future post.

Great edition, Carolyn! So many tabs opened... 😄

Indirectly related to our creative sides, I find a serene, clean, calm space to help me create and love any and all tools that support me in adulting, in this instance, in cleaning. Crevice tools! Both disposable and keep. Disposable for icky things like toilets, keep for the gap between the stove and counter, around faucets, grout, etc. I've turned my network onto them and now everyone keeps tagging me in their cleaning photos which, as someone who helps adults adult as my job, gives me life. 😍

i went down a crevice tool search rabbit hole and am awed & overwhelmed! do you have specific products you'd recommend?

😂 I knowwwwwwwwww. Isn't it glorious?!?

Yesssss, I love to recommend and refer. Here's my Mac & Cheese Amazon Shop (Affiliate!) — https://www.amazon.com/shop/macncheeseproductions

The two I'm crushing on are in Cleaning Loves ➡️ 2nd row.

Happyyyyy crevicing! It's addictive.

do you think we should put more weight behind content made by hand vs gen ai? curious on your take :)

i absolutely do, and i would love to see fully ai generated content labeled as such so people can train their eyes/ears for ai creations. in an ideal world gen ai would be a welcoming entry point into creative work so that people learn more about the skills and inspirations behind whatever they create instead of copy/pasting trendy things without knowing its origins. this is what we gain when we make things the hard way. since gen ai can't trace back the exact sources of what it outputs, it makes context like this really difficult to learn when solely relying on ai... and context is often what really differentiates "higher value" fine art and creative work.

i also recognize there is ai-assisted work but not fully gen ai, like swapping out color palettes from a human-made piece, or using generative fill to add a plant in a photo. setting aside environmental impact, i think i'm ok with this and don't see it as too different from other tech tools like photoshop/procreate.

Lovely post and I hope you are feeling better. In the yin/yang of creativity I fall completely into the Being column and have built elaborate and successful methodology to ignore the Doing side. Please do write about how you use AI. I am AI curious and don't know where to begin. Perhaps it can help me unlock the secrets of the Doing column in a good way.

ooh so interesting Hilary, what do you do to ignore Doing? and noted, thanks so much - will work on the AI post!

My favorite ways to avoid Doing are research, rabbit holing based on research, garden check-ins leading to plant emergencies, studio re-organization which can include pencil sharpening, supply dreaming, paper organizing...you get the picture...suddenly it’s time for dinner 🙀

I'm digging this yin and yang of creativity. i realize i often do both at the same time which is probably why neither feel satisfying.

That #7 diagram really got the gears turning. I lean toward Being and frequently need to remind myself, “Energy wrong, I log off,” when I procrastinate the Doing bit.
