Fellow INFP here! (Along with so many artists and creative types, it would seem). I feel so much the same - my rational brain knows it’s all pseudoscience, but I will say I’ve never felt more “seen” in any other description of personality ever 😂 it was deeply affirming the first time I tested more than 10 years ago - helped me make sense of so many frustrations i was having as a young adult. I’ve continued to score strongly INFP on every re-test since.

MBTI is like horoscopes for people who describe themselves as sapiosexual on Tinder.

Just eye-rolling silliness. But I would say that; I'm an INTJ

LOL nailed it as always! There should be a personality quiz based on what personality quiz you like...

I'm sure there is.. somewhere...

I was very into MBTI once cause that was the first personality test that I find good enough while I was analyzing myself. I got a little crazy over being an INTP but the T and F was almost in the middle, tipping only a little over to T so I obsessed over am I INTP or INFP? So once I discussed with a fellow friend who was also quite well versed in mbti, he said "the fact that you're analyzing this makes you an INTP". Whoaa, he's right! Haha. But anyway since then I realize it's just a tool to help understand different aspects of yourself and others but since we are all unique, we can't really categorize a person.

Hahah your friend saw your archetype from a meta POV! For sure, humans are way too complicated to neatly categorize, but having some sort of unified language to talk about differences/similarities is helpful :)

Thank you friend! :)

Yes, these kinda "types" definitely helps in communication, or just to quickly assess a group dynamics in a high level.

I love that you addressed how people like to use them to feel belonging and group identity. I don’t think we talk about that feature enough!

I think they’re interesting prompts for self-exploration, but know the science behind them is weak, so I’d never put much weight in them. (signed, the psych PhD who also knows she’s an INFP, too 😅)

For sure Bryn! I don't think people usually feel like it's socially acceptable to talk about personality in early group settings so doing it in the context of categories like MBTI lessens that burden.

Loved this! I definitely don't subscribe to personality tests or horoscopes as a belief system, but I do think they're fun! I like thinking of MBTI as a way to better understand the things you already know about yourself, and embracing them. I'm an ISFJ :)

My husband is an ISFJ too hehe :)

I’m also in the first camp!! I enjoy using them as tools to further understand myself ☺️ I don’t take them too seriously but the results offer guidance throughout my self development journey. I’m an ENFJ ✨

A solid INTJ here. I know many don't buy into the MBTI, but I feel it's pretty accurate.

I love personality tests TBH - I am an INFJ (although I feel like I take the test every few years and it always changes....might be time to take it again)

Haha I always wonder "maybe I'm different?" and take it every couple of years...then nope it's the same 😹

I also take a million different ones expecting to learn something new about myself but all it really does is validate what I already know to be true (which is amazing, too!)

ohh if you like these things, then you should definitely check out the Tarot or I Ching. I have a hard time getting past the pseudo-science talk, but I'm all in on woo divination as a way to let the subconscious manifest itself into one's brain!

ooh, I am familiar with the basics of tarot but not I Ching! 👀 Will do some research

Have fun! At the moment I'm indulging in the simplicity of just shuffling a deck of cards, but I also enjoy the process of throwing coins, or even better, the long process of the yarrow sticks which is a meditative rite in itself. I'm a fan of the old standard Wilhelm/Baynes translation...but there are a lot of resources out there!

Also an INTJ. Seems like I'm in good company here.

how funny! I am also an INFP. I love pseudopsychology, and I don't care what others say. It's helped me better understand myself.

I love me a personality test. I don’t know that I fully subscribe to them but I enjoy finding out what I am? Ha! I’m an INTJ.

I love this! The resistance to fully believe due to logic-brain, but curiosity pulls you to try it anyway 👏

I’m a big-time personality-junkie, and use several quizzes in my work with clients! But I’ve always said, no ONE test is ever going to be able to accurately describe someone fully. They’re not meant to.

Like you, I’ve found these tests to be a great way to give words to aspects of my —and my clients’— traits. It brings clarity. But again, I feel you have to take several quizzes, and then look at the patterns that emerge across all of your results to get a truer picture of what’s really “you”.

I’m an INTP, btw!

(And an Enneagram 5-wing-4… which took me over a year to figure out!!)

Truity.com has a bunch of the quizzes fr3e to take.

I also love personality tests. When I first took the MBTI, it was like reading a personal assessment of myself. Though I also think we shouldn't rely too much on them, they feel very... validating? I could finally grasp that maybe I wasn't too weird x)

(I'm also an INFP by the way!)
