It’s been a while since I’ve nerded out on art supplies with you all. With back-to-school season here and the Sketchbook Gallery up and running, what better time to dive into the world of sketchbooks?

Finding a sketchbook you love is no easy feat. Not only do you have to consider the paper quality (the color, weight1, grain) but also the book itself (the size, build, and amount of pages). The process of shopping around and trying different sketchbooks can be a blast, but finishing a sketchbook you don’t like is quite a drag.

Today I’ll be sharing my sketchbook superlatives based on the many I’ve tried out over the years, along with a few I didn’t end up enjoying. But before we dive into the reviews, I have something fun to share…

I put together a short quiz for you to find out which sketchbook is right for your personality and preference! There’s no email collection, affiliate links, or gimmicks—just five questions to find your perfect sketchbook. I love a fun quiz and comparing my results with others, so I hope you enjoy!

Take the sketchbook quiz!

My Sketchbook Superlatives

Here are my unofficial sketchbook awards 🏆 I mainly use mixed media sketchbooks that are nice enough for my materials to work well but not so nice that I feel scared of the page. My go to materials are ink, gouache, and colored pencil. Alright, let’s dive in!

FYI, this section of the post will be accessible to everyone for a few weeks, after which it will be locked for paid subscribers only.
